This is one of the best examples you are ever likely to find of the Gilbert Shield model. If your are looking for a very rare Gilbert clock -- this is it! The shield clock, without a calendar, 10 years ago was listed in Tran Duy Ly's American Clocks book for $1,000. That was ten years ago, and that clock did not have a calendar.
This clock has its original cut glass bottom tablet, fancy pendulum, and aged but perfect original dial. There is a date of 1876 on the top edge of the dial.
It keeps perfect time, and the calendar works just as well. The wood is also in great shape, as you can see in the pictures.
It gongs the hours on a heavy deep sounding gong.
It is 29 inches tall, with a 6 inch dial.
We have not seen a Gilbert Shield for sale anywhere for at least 2 years, and we have never seen another one with a calendar, although they did obviously make them.
