This is a very nice example of an early American Plller and Scroll Clock, by Ephraim Downs of Bristol, Connecticut.

The whole clock is really in very good original condition. The only exception we think is the bottom glass which is an obvious replacement. Even the original door lock and key is present and working.    

The clock runs for several minutes and stops. It will ring the hours on its heavy bell when you move the hands to the hour. We have had the movement out and we do not see any broken or missing teeth. We think a good clea and oil might get this up and running again.

The original dial is in great shape as you can see in the pictures. One of the ears on the top scroll looks like it broke and was reglued, typical of this style clock.

The backboard is made up of two peices and each peice is marked 23 as is the back of the dial. Another interesting bit is the label on the back is a repair label dated 1902. The original Ephraim Downs label is in excellent condition.

The door center rail has had some repair but id in good shape. The whole case is very solid and in overall good condition.

This really is a nice peice of Americana.
