It is difficult to know what to give anyone for a gift, let alone someone who seems to already have everything. We are a society that has largely gone the way of the gift card and subsequently, our gift giving has continued to become less and less personal. For close family and friends it can still make all the difference in the world to pick out a gift that they are likely to truly love, a gift that will last for many years to come and remind them of you each and every time they look at it. Clocks, while they may not be the first thing to pop to mind when it comes to gift giving, can actually make quite lovely, thoughtful, and useful gifts.

Clocks are hardly just the small, metal structures that sit on our nightstands, waking us up in the mornings and playing the radio and CDs on command. Rather, clocks come in all types of designs and are meant for all types of applications; the mantel clock that sits atop a beautiful fireplace, the wall clock that hangs in our kitchens or family room, as much a piece of beloved furniture as anything else in the home, or the stately grandfather clock that takes up residence in the dining room or entryway, a piece of art as much as a family heirloom.

Here is the long and short of it: although we certainly need them, although we may want them, and although they may make a lovely addition to the decor already in place in our home, very few people actually follow through with buying themselves clocks. That, in a nutshell, is what makes them such spectacular gifts. They are wanted, they are desired, but they are rarely purchased for ones own use. Mostly because good clocks are considered a luxury item.

Buying a clock of any variety for a loved one or friend means that they will have something they can use to infuse their home with style, something that is both functional and beautiful, and something that can very easily become a family heirloom passed down from generation to generation. And what greater gift is that?
