This Herman Miller Grandfather Clock is a rare clock, only a few of which we have seen. It likely was made around 1920, and is driven by an electric motor. Many grandfather clocks shoppers are not aware that the famous Herman Miller was actually the father of the famous Howard Miller of Howard Miller Clock company fame. When Howard Miller started working at the Herman Miller Furniture Company, he soon found himself drawn and gravitating to clocks of all types. Many different types of Herman Miller clocks were made, with Howard Miller taking the lead on most all. Herman Miller grandfather clocks and grandmother clocks were only one type. We have in our collection and will soon show for sale an amazing antique Herman Miller Clock Barometer Thermometer mantle clock combination. We also have both electric and keywind and battery driven banjo clocks, mantel clocks, and wall clocks. Howard Miller the individual decided eventually to start up his own company just across the street from the Herman Miller Furniture Company, the Howard Miller Clock Company in Zeeland Michigan focusing on grandfather clocks, wall clocks, mantel clocks, grandmother clocks, and more and more in the furniture space over time. Howard Miller frequently referred to grandfather clocks as floor clocks, thus encompassing grandmother clocks and grandfather clocks. We hope to showcase many more Herman Miller Clocks on our website and in our stores over time. Our understanding is that Herman Miller, while still a very successful company, no longer has any immediate members or family ownership from Herman Miller's direct descendants. Howard Miller Clocks, however, still has the involvement and ownership participation from direct descendants, including Buzz Miller, one of Howard Miller's sons, who is currently the President and Chief Executive Officer of Howard Miller Furniture. The Company has expanded into many aspects of furniture, including chairs, sofas, bedroom sets, curios, wine and bars furnishing, and storage solutions. While Herman Miller continues to focus on the Office Market, Howard Miller is eying and entering as many aspect of home furnishings as seem like logical product line extensions.
